So, tell me about yourself they say…

OK, here goes:

What does one know about the law when one starts thinking of studying it? What one sees on Alley McBeal? Luckily I wasn’t as naive as that and since my psychometric tests all came back with a “you can do what you want”, I decided to kick off with a B.Comm (Law) degree at Stellenbosch. I soon realised that I really enjoy the law and that led to my LLB. At the end of my studies I spent some time in Belgium as an exchange student – an event that changed my views on my career dramatically.

Armed with my LLB, I tackled my articles. Been there, done that, I practised law for a while, post articles, and did some very interesting IC Tcases (domain name disputes) and some ICT legal consulting work (legal risk profiling from an ICT perspective, etc).

Although I was loving my job, I have a continuous need for excitement and an extremely interesting opportunity came past to join a private equity firm. My love for the law and the great ICT work I was doing, was waging war with my inner voice, still calling on me to put my commercial skills to the test.

In the end my curiosity won and I joined the private equity firm, where I am worked on the operational / investment side.

However, as the wise men say, it never rains, but pours and shortly after joining Business Partners I was presented with an opportunity to join a leading global consultancy as a consultant (well, to be honest, consultant in training, but who’s counting!). I’ve been interested in this leading global consultancy since my second year at varsity and even though I love Cape Town (my birth town!), that is the reason why I have relocated to Johannesburg…

To cure my hunger for some legal exposure I’m keeping this (legal) blog running and doing some volunteer work at the local legal aid clinic.

In a nutshell, that’s the (professional) me.

On a social level I have a few more loves in my live, the biggest two my running (two oceans ultra every year since 2003) and skiing (mostly every year, as and when finances permit). Other than that I hang out on the web2.0, am a bit of a readoholic and love my glass of good stellenbosch red.
